Recently Rob and I decided to take up a new hobby and make our own drinks! The very first one we’ve decided to share with you is these delicious margaritas!

Ingredients for the berry syrup:

  • 4 cups water

  • 3 cups sugar

  • 12 oz blueberries

  • 12 oz blackberries

  • 12 oz strawberries, sliced

Ingredients for the cocktails:

  • 2 cups berry syrup

  • 2 cups lime juice

  • 2 cups tequila (This is approximately 2/3 of a 750-milliliter bottle of tequila. You can use the full bottle if you prefer a stronger drink)

  • ¼ cup sugar

  • Ice

Instructions for syrup:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a large saucepan over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a simmer and then cook for 4-5 minutes until the sugar has dissolved and the berries have softened.

  2. Remove the syrup from the heat and let it cool completely.

  3. Strain the syrup to remove the berry pieces and set aside for later use. (This can be used as an ice cream topping or mixed into a smoothie at another time.)

Instructions for the cocktails:

  1. Combine tequila, lime juice, and syrup in a pitcher. Stir well to ensure the drink is mixed thoroughly.

  2. Pour the sugar onto a plate. Take a slice of lime and rub it along the rim of your glasses then turn it over and coat the rim in the sugar. Fill each glass about halfway with ice.

  3. Pour the margaritas over the ice and garnish your glass with a slice of lime or fresh berries.
